What've the Tuskers Gained?
It really was a great season as far as Kochi Tuskers Kerala are concerned. They were debutants but put up an entertaining show at IPL IV.They certainly are the giant killers of this season's IPL.They have beaten three out of four teams that qualified for the playoffs.KTK had their chances to qualify for the playoffs but they were inconsistent and it paid off.
Good for Kerala
This was the first season KTK played the IPL and they were able to include 4 Malayalees in the team. This is a great acheivement for Kerala as it is not a powerhouse in cricket.Prashanth Padhmanabhan who was on debut against Delhi Daredevils got the precious wickets of Sehwag and Venugopal Rao and was eventually awarded the man of the match award.Raifi Vincent Gomez against Kolkata Knight Riders was awesome. He got Kallis and Gambhir out in a single over.Sreesanth was impressive throughout the competition. He was the most economical bowler for KTK with the economy rate below six runs per over which is a great acheivement in Twenty-20 cricket.Prashanth Padmanabhan also featured for Kochi Tuskers Kerala playing in the last outing for the team this season. This is a great platform for talented Kerala players to make their mark in world cricket.
Murali Disappoints
The king of spin bowling Muttaih Muralitharan who was bought for five crores by KTK disappointed everyone.Expectations were very high on the man who took 800 test wickets. He couldn't deliver what the team expected from him. There were ten overseas players within the team.In comparison to the bowling attack,KTK's batting department was very weak.To strengthen it they could only include four batsmen in the team.As a result wewere able to see Muralitharan sitting in the substitutes bench which is an unusual act.
Openers Delivered
Brendon McCullum was the star for Kochi this season. Many believe that he was the key to all victories tasted by the team and infact he was. With his aggressive batting and feilding he is a player that any franchise owner would have dreamed off.Parthiv Patel,Hodge,Jadeja,RP Singh,Vinay Kumar were also impressive under the sensible captaincy of Mahela Jayawardene.
On the whole this past season was a great one for Kochi Tuskers Kerala. They have announced themselves that they've the talent to upset big guns They would take the positives out of this tournament and prepare for glory next season.
